Dash Cam Not Recording? Troubleshooting Guide

A dash cam that is not recording is worse than none, because you assume you are covered. Work through these common causes in order.

Start with the card

A worn, full, or incompatible SD card is the most common culprit. Reformat it in the camera, and if problems persist, replace it with a high-endurance card within the supported capacity.

Check power

Confirm the camera is actually receiving power. Inspect the cable, the adapter, and the fuse if hardwired, and make sure the socket is live when the ignition is on.

Rule out settings and firmware

Verify recording is actually enabled and not stuck in a mode you did not intend. A firmware update can also fix recording bugs.
