Do Dash Cams Drain Your Car Battery?
A common worry is waking to a dead battery because of a dash cam. While driving there is nothing to fear; parking mode is where care is needed.
While driving
When the engine runs, the alternator powers the camera and charges the battery. Normal driving use has no meaningful effect on your battery.
The parking-mode question
Recording while parked draws from the battery. Without protection, long sessions could leave it too low to start the car.
How to prevent it
A hardwire kit with a low-voltage cutoff stops drawing power before the battery is compromised, and a dedicated battery pack avoids touching the car battery entirely.
